- Thalamus - is part of the midbrain. Many neurons send their axons through here.
- Hypothalamus - is below the the thalamus. It is very important for the production and distribution of hormones.
- Amygdala - is part of the limbic system. It is involved in emotion.
- Hippocampus - is part of the limbic system. It is very important for memory formation and recall.
- Pons - is part of the brain stem. It controls sleep and facial motions.
- Medulla - is part of the brain stem. It controls the heart, breathing, blood pressure, and much more.
- Spinal cord - is required for communication between the brain and the rest of the body, including peripheral nervous system.
